Varan is a simple, everyday dal best enjoyed with piping hot rice in Maharashtrian homes.
1. Heat a pan and add cooked tur or arhar dal.
2. Pour water and mix it.
3. Sprinkle salt, cumin seeds, turmeric powder and asafoetida.
4. Let it cook and once it comes to a boil, simmer it.
5. Let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes.
6. Once it has cooked serve it hot with rice.
