How to make Goa’s special chicken cafreal

Bring Goa home with this spicy chicken cafreal that will remind you of a local cafe tucked away by the beach.

Chicken cafreal is a widely popular delicacy of Goa that is said to have originated in the Portuguese colonies. And it is not unknown that a large part of Goan cuisine is influenced by the Portuguese that once settled here.

Cafreal masala is a green spice paste made from coriander, green chillies, ginger-garlic, and a whole bunch of spices like peppercorn, cumin, cinnamon and turmeric. As you would have guessed, it is a pungent and strong spice paste that packs in a lot of flavours. Not to mention, a Goan favourite. You can also experiment with this paste and make vegetarian versions of it with paneer and mushroom.
