Finding Stillness in the City: My Luxury Escape to ITC Grand Central

A restorative weekend spent between sunlit breakfasts, peaceful spa rituals, and quiet corners that made the city feel beautifully distant.

Last weekend, I finally gave myself the break I’d been putting off for months and checked into the ITC Grand Central, Mumbai. Honestly, it felt like slipping into a beautifully written chapter of old-world Bombay, except with every modern comfort I could’ve asked for.

The moment I drove into the property, the striking façade with Malaysian brickwork, stone, and the stately canopy inspired by the old Bombay Secretariat, set the tone for the stay. There’s a nostalgia to the building that hits you instantly, as if the city’s past is quietly holding your hand while ushering you into luxury.

But what I loved most was the moment I stepped into the Millsquare, the romantic courtyard that splits the hotel into the grand Peace Zone and the celebratory, bustling Celebration Zone. Standing there, surrounded by soft light and greenery, I genuinely felt the noise of the city fall away.

My Room & The Peace Zone
I stayed in one of the Executive Club Rooms in the Peace Zone, and it lived up to its name completely. Warm lighting, soft carpets, and a view that made mornings feel softer. The one detail that really stayed with me was how calm the entire floor felt, almost like the hotel had intentionally created a small sanctuary for people like me who want a break but still need a comfortable, functional space.

Slow Mornings, Good Food, and In-Room Indulgence
While breakfast at Hornby’s Pavilion is beautiful, I spent my morning embracing the luxury of doing nothing at all, so I ordered room service instead. There’s something about having a tray arrive with fresh fruit, pastries, and a pot of hot coffee while you’re still wrapped in a robe that feels like the ultimate staycation pleasure. I ate slowly, letting the sunlight soak into the room, and honestly, those quiet breakfasts became some of my favourite moments from the stay.

In the evening, after a long spa session, I skipped the restaurants and decided to dine in again. I ordered from the in-room menu—a comforting spread of soft rotis, a velvety dal, and one of their signature kebabs. Everything arrived perfectly warm and beautifully plated. Eating such a delicious meal while curled up by the window with the city glittering outside felt intimate, calm, and unexpectedly special.

Spa, Gym & Pool: My Little Wellness Break
I’d promised myself that this staycation wouldn’t just be a getaway; it would be a reset. So, I spent a good amount of time at the Kaya Kalp Spa, which is huge and beautifully designed. The therapy I booked left me both relaxed and grounded, and between the jacuzzi, steam, and sauna, I walked out feeling like a lighter, more refreshed version of myself.

The gym surprised me, too. It was spacious, well-equipped, and actually enjoyable to use. And the pool was a little oasis, perfect for a slow dip or an afternoon spent unwinding with a book.

Food, Drinks & Celebrations
I also walked through the Ballroom and the Terrace Garden, both of which are ideal for weddings and gatherings. The Terrace Garden especially feels like stepping into a little piece of lushness under the open sky.

Final Thoughts
My stay at ITC Grand Central wasn’t just a break; it felt like stepping into a carefully curated world where heritage and modern luxury blend seamlessly. Between the spa, the rooftop views, the pool, the warm service, and all those quiet in-room dining moments, this staycation became exactly the reset I needed.

Sometimes you don’t need to leave the city to feel restored. You just need the right place. And for me, this time, ITC Grand Central was perfect.
