Picture this: you're sitting at a restaurant, perusing the menu, and suddenly you hear the sound of your favourite song playing in the background. You can't help but smile as you start to hum along, tapping your foot to the beat. The waiter approaches and you are excited to place your order. Could this dining experience get any better? You feel like you're in your own personal happy place, and you're loving every minute of it.
As soon as I walked through the large double doors with the discreet name plaque at Shy in Chembur, I knew I was in for a treat. The vintage decor, the old room, the library room, and the wood-fired pizza room made the dining experience unique and special. The cafe is thoughtfully designed to offer a cosy and lavish experience that reflects the splendour of a time in the past. The lighting is soft and soothing, and the furnishings include plush cushions and blankets that enhance the overall comfort level. Every detail is meticulously crafted to create an ambiance that is both grand and welcoming.
The al fresco seating was relaxing and peaceful, with large palm leaves partially providing shade and also letting you bask in the natural sunlight. The classic bar with soft lampshades and seductively lit bottles were inviting, and I personally loved the traditional white marble-topped mouldings and brass rail. Sporting an open kitchen and a wood-fired oven, the food here brings to you a sense of calm and comfort, and of course the presentation on sophisticated and earth-toned utensils awakens the spark to click a picture before you dig in. Along with lip-smacking food, each table was brought to life with hearty laughter and easy friendly banter and conversation.
The menu at Shy offers a variety of global modern cuisine. Our delicious meal started with the Spicy Chicken Dimsums, which had a perfect blend of spicy and savoury flavours. The Burrata Pizza was a standout dish, with smoky and earthy flavours from the wood-fired oven and perfectly melted burrata cheese. The Pesto Chicken Tikka was a tasty twist on a classic Indian dish, with an exotic pesto sauce adding nuttiness and seasoning to the chicken. The boneless Chicken Wings were juicy and tender, served with a spicy buffalo sauce. Finally, the Bangkok Chilli Fish was a beautiful fusion of Thai and Indian flavours, with crispy battered fish and a balanced sweet, tangy, and spicy sauce. The food here strikes the perfect balance of piquancy and punch, suited to our Indian palate. We highly recommend trying the Peri Peri Prawns here. They were creamy with just the right amount of seasoning, and the garlic bread paired with it made it a match made in heaven.
The dessert menu at Shy Chembur offers a range of decadent treats that are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. The Pull Me Up Rasmalai Tres Leches is a unique dessert that's perfect for sharing, with layers of soft cake and creamy rasmalai topped with a rich tres leches sauce. The Forbidden Chocolate Forest is a chocolate lover's dream, with a rich chocolate soil, tart raspberry macaroon caps, and a creamy hazelnut mousse and sealing the deal with a generous scoop of smooth vanilla bean ice cream, just brings the whole dessert together.
If you talk about food, you cannot forget the drink. Shy's bar menu offers a wide selection of beverages that complement their extensive culinary menu. From beers to various spirits such as vodka, gin, rum, and whiskey, as well as aperitifs, liqueurs, cognac, wines, mocktails and soft drinks, you will always find something to suit your taste, no matter the mood or occasion. You definitely shouldn't miss out ontheir specialty cocktails, which are carefully crafted by skilled mixologists, each boasting a delightful zing, zest and edge. Be sure to try their signature cocktails, such as the Sterling Pearl, the Chocolate Moonshine, the Apple-bea and the Elixir. Just a few reccomendations from us if you are a first-timer overwhelmed with your choices.
If you're looking for a place to either grab a snack on-the-go or celebrate a special occasion with your loved ones, then Shy surely doesn’t shy away from being the perfect spot for you.
