"Lose your inhibitions, be open and connect with home cooks when you are travelling," said Thomas Zacharias, executive chef of Bombay Canteen. We couldn't agree more. Food being an integral part of travel, it is a great way to connect with local cultures and cuisines. This was the very idea behind India Food Network's first Google Hangout, which was hosted on Tuesday.

'The Gourmet Traveller' on #AddawithKalyan featured celebrity chef, Ranveer Brar, young TV chef and author, Saransh Goila, and executive chef of Bombay Canteen, Thomas Zacharias who shared interesting anecdotes about eating local food from their travels. It was anchored by India Food Network's Editor-at-Large, Kalyan Karmakar.

Be it a Kootu curry in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, which inspired Chef Thomas to create a dish for Bombay Canteen or Saransh's experience tasting an emu pickle in Hyderabad, it was interesting to note how travel influences the way we perceive food. What we would definitely take back is Ranveer's advice about studying the local culture of a particular place to understand its food.
