Kale ice-cream is the latest trend in town.
A raging trend over the last couple of years, this humble leafy vegetable is here to stay after all. And why not? Kale is loaded with all good things. While the basic recipes made with this veggie are well-known, we are talking kale salad, chips or smoothies, you can make it much more fun.
Let kale take over your diet with these 5 interesting recipes.
Kale soup
A great companion on a cold winter night, this soup is a good way to get some kale in your diet.
In a heated pan, add in butter, chopped onions, garlic, potatoes, salt and pepper. Let it cook and then pour in some vegetable stock. Keep it to simmer for a while and add washed and chopped kale leaves. Let this cook for a couple of minutes and transfer into a blender. Blend until all the ingredients are well combined. Pour this back into the pan, simmer for a while, garnish and serve.
Kale ice-cream
If you are on a diet, but cannot contain your sweet cravings, try out the latest ice-cream in town.
Begin by adding sweet ripe bananas, kale, dates and vanilla extract in a blender. Mix well and add any dairy-free milk one tablespoon at a time. Make sure to check the consistency. Once it is of the desired consistency, keep it in the freezer to set. Scoop and serve.
Kale pesto sauce
Add a healthy kick to your favourite pasta sauce!
To make this, add in kale, basil and salt in a blender. With the blades still running, pour in some olive oil. Add walnuts and garlic and mix once more. Toss it with some spaghetti and get chomping.
Kale pizza dough
Adding greens to pizza does make it healthier, right? Try this kale base the next time you make pizza at home and kick away the carbs.
Make a pizza base by adding chopped kale, breadcrumbs, cheese, salt, eggs and pepper into a food processor and blend until it comes together as a dough ball. Put the dough ball onto a tray lined with butter paper and spread it across with your hands. Put it in the oven and bake until golden brown. Remove from the oven, add your favourite toppings, and bake for another 1o minutes.
Kale dip
Dip your chips in this sorta healthy kale dip. It's pretty good for all your house parties too!
In a pan, add in the kale, onions, garlic and a dash of water. Let it cook for a while and add to a blender along with some lemon juice, salt, pepper, a little cheese and blend. Take it out in a bowl and serve. Pretty easy, eh?
