You can eat Duck Roast at Pia's Christmas pop-up.
For the uninitiated, Christmas in Calcutta or Kolkata is celebrated as 'Boro Din' (Bada Din in Hindi) as days start getting longer hereon. It is a time when the entire city comes out to feast and enjoy. The cheery spirit of Christmas is almost infectious with people queuing up at Park Street to eat plum cakes and spend afternoons on the lawns of Victoria Memorial.
Home chef Pia Promina Dasgupta Barve, who was born and brought up in Kolkata, plans to capture the same spirit with a pop-up dedicated to Christmas.
With dishes like smoked Norwegian salmon, Polish-style roast duck, egg mayonnaise, leg of ham and lots more, the menu truly captures Pia's Christmas memories from her childhood.
"Christmas was always a happy time back home and was celebrated by each and every community irrespective of their varied backgrounds. The menu is complete with a variety of dishes we enjoyed as children during Christmas with my parents and their friends. A lot of dishes are in fact inspired from my mother's recipes," says Pia.
The Calcutta Christmas pop-up is going to be hosted at Pia's home in Bandra, Mumbai*.
