Kalimirch Chicken by Seema


  • 1 whole chicken cut into pieces
  • 1 large onion diced into pieces
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
  • Lime juice of 2 lemons
  • 3 tbsp of garlic ginger paste
  • Oil
  • 1 ½ - 2 tbsp of freshly ground black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp garam masala


  • Pour 2 tbsp of oil and let it heat
  • Add the garlic ginger paste
  • Add the onions
  • Let the onions cook for 2-3 minutes
  • Add the chicken pieces
  • Let it cook for a while
  • Add the salt
  • Add the pepper
  • Tip: To increase the spice, one can add more black pepper
  • Shut the vessel and let it cook for 15- 20 minutes till the chicken has become tender
  • Add a little water on the lid so that the chicken cooks fast and does not burn
  • After it cooks for 20 -25 minutes remove the lid
  • Add the lime juice
  • Check if the chicken is done
  • Add the garma masala
  • Add the add the coriander leaves
  • Add the remaining black pepper
  • Tip: One can add 1 tsp butter or 2 tbsp cream to give a fine glaze to the chicken
  • Kalimirch chicken is ready to serve
