This apple chutney recipe is easy-to-make and can be prepared with easily available ingredients like apples, chilies and cider vinegar. Learn how to make this sweet and spicy homemade fruit chutney from Kamini Patel and use it as a chatpata jam or chutney for dosas and tikkas.

INGREDIENTS

    1 1/2 cups diced apples
    2 chopped onions
    2 teaspoons mustard seeds
    1 bay leaf
    ½ teaspoon hing
    ½ teaspoon turmeric
    1 teaspoon red chilli flakes
    1 cinnamon stick
    1 cup apple cider vinegar
    ½ cup brown sugar
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 tablespoon vegetable oil.

DIRECTIONS

Heat the oil with mustard seeds.
Once they start popping, add the hing, bay leaf, red chilli flakes, cinnamon stick and stir.
Then add the turmeric, sugar and apples. Stir until coated with masala.
Add the apple cider vinegar and stir a few times and let cook for at least 15 minutes, until softened and resembles a chutney.
Usage: sandwich, chutney for tikkas, salads, dosa, dip.
