Mustard seeds are an integral part of household cooking across India. Sasive, as people in Karnataka like to call it, however, finds usage of a different nature down south. In Udipi cuisine, the seeds are ground to a fine paste and mixed with coconut for added flavours.

INGREDIENTS

    4-5 dried red chillies
    1tsp mustard seeds
1/8th tsp of roasted fenugreek seeds (methi seeds)
    1/4 cup of coconut
(TIP Blend these 4 ingredients to make a paste)
    1 1/2 tbsp oil
    Water for cooking
    1/4 cup okra
    1/4 cup pumpkin
    1/3 cup brinjals
1/3 cup suran (elephant foot yam)
    Hing dissolved in water
    Few curry leaves

DIRECTIONS

Tips While you Cook:

One can feel free to add other vegetables like potatoes etc
To avoid Okra from getting slimy, cook it in hot oil and let the moisture seal
One can refrigerate the paste for a few days if one wishes to.
