Masala Broken Wheat

- Heat the kadai/ deep frying pan
- Heat 3 tbsp of oil
- Add the mustard seeds
- Add 1 inch piece of ginger finely chopped
- Add the 2 green chillies finely chopped
- Add 8-10 curry leaves
- Add the finely chopped onions
- Stir well
- Once the onions turn translucent, add the chopped carrots
- Add the green peas
- Add the chopped potatoes
- Stir well
- Add ¼ tsp of turmeric powder
- Add 1/’2 tsp of red chilli powder
- Add 1 tsp of dhaniya powder (coriander powder)
- Some salt for the vegetables
- Stir well
- Add the chopped tomatoes
- Stir well for a few minutes
- Add the dalia (broken wheat)
- Mix it well with the vegetables
- Boil 2 ½ bowls of water
- TIP : Ratio of dalia to water should always be 1: 2½
- Add the boiling water into the kadai/deep frying pan
- Add salt as per taste for daliya
- Add few coriander leaves
- Mix well
- TIP: Adding boiling water helps the vegetables to cook quicker and doesn’t let the dalia get sticky
- Once the water is completely absorbed cover the kadai/ deep frying pan with a lid and let it cook for 3-4 mins on a low flame
- Masala broken wheat is ready to be served
