Blackforest Cake

Method

  • Grease the pan with some butter
  • TIP: Greasing ensures that the cake doesn't stick to the pan
  • Pre-heat the oven at 150 degrees
  • For the batter: In a double boiler melt 125g of butter
  • TIP: The key to good bakery is to ensure all ingredients are accurately measured.
  • Once the butter has melted cool it down for a couple of minutes
  • Pour 400g (the entire tine( of condensed milk
  • Incorporate the butter and condensed milk together
  • TIP: Do not stir the mixture vigorously
  • Sift 225g of all purpose flour, 1 tsp of baking powder and 3 heap full of cocoa powder
  • Now, alternate between the cola and butter and condensed milk batter and add it to the sifted ingredients
  • TIP: Do not stir the cake mixture vigorously. Only keep folding it to ensure a smooth consistency is formed.
  • TIP: When lines can be drawn on the batter, the batter is considered ready
  • Once the mixture is ready, pour it into the greased cake mould
  • Send the cake to a preheated oven for 30-40 minutes at 160 degrees celsius.
  • To make whipping cream: Add the whipping cream powder to a bowl and add 90ml of water.
  • Whip the mixture for 3 minutes with a whisker. If doing it manually, whip it for 6 minutes
  • TIP: Once the tips of the cream are stiff, the cream is ready for use
  • Once the cream is ready, chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes
  • Pit the cherries, chop them finely and chill it in the refrigerator for 10-15mins
  • TIP: To check the cake, poke a knife into it, if the knife comes out clean, the cake is ready.
  • Loosen the sides of the cake by running a knife around it
  • Over turn the cake on a wire rack or plate
  • TIP: The cake has to be cooled down to room temperature before cutting it in the centre
  • Once the cake has cooled, slice it horizontally from the centre, making 2 halves
  • Once the cake is cut into half, keep the other layer separately
  • Now start applying the cream, chopped cherries
  • Sandwich the cake with other layer and apply cream on all sides
  • Add some grated chocolate and whole cherries on top of the cake
  • Cake is ready to serve
