Kalya Vatanyachi Usal (Black Peas Curry) By Archana

INGREDIENTS

    Vatan (ground masala) -
    ½ bowl coconut
    1 onion
    Garam masala (cinnamon, clove and black pepper)
    1 tbsp oil
    Roast all the ingredients and grind with little water
    1 bowl black peas, soaked overnight in water and boiled with a pinch of salt
    Salt to taste
    ½ tsp haldi (turmeric) powder
    ½ tsp jeera (cumin)
    1 tbsp mix masala
    Oil

DIRECTIONS

Usal is a typical Marathi dish made with peas, lentils or sprouts and served with Bhakris or Chapatis. They are high in spices, full in flavor and rich with nutrition.

Method:

1. Start with heating oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds to the oil, turmeric, ground malasa, mix masala and salt.

2. Saute for some time and add boiled black  peas. Boil it for 5 minutes.

3. Serve hot.
