Malwani Chana Usal – Black Chickpea Curry Recipe

Malwani Chana Usal is a spicy Maharashtrian recipe made with black chickpea, spices, and veggies. It tastes best when paired with Indian bread.

INGREDIENTS

    1/2 cup brown Channa soaked for 8 hrs
    1 onion finely chopped
    1 tomato finely chopped
    Ginger garlic paste 2 teaspoons
    1/2 teaspoons turmeric
    2 teaspoons Malavani masala
    1teaspoon chili powder
    Whole masala 2 teaspoons
    Pepper
    Cloves
    Cinnamon
    1/2 cup fresh coconut grated
    Oil
    Salt
    Hing
    1 cup water

DIRECTIONS

In a pan add oil, ginger garlic paste, asafoetida, chopped onion, chopped tomato, brown chickpeas, turmeric powder, red chili powder, Malwani masala, salt, water and mix them together
Cook them for 15 minutes
In another pan add, oil, cloves, cinnamon stick, black peppercorns, chopped onion, freshly grated coconut and mix them together until they turn golden brown in color.
Grind the mixture of grated coconut until liquid like consistency is formed.
Add this prepared paste to the pan and cook it for 5 more minutes.
Malwani channa Usal is ready to serve.
