Malwani Chicken Curry – Maharashtrian Chicken Gravy

To all the chicken lovers out there, treat yourself with this spicy Malwani or Konkani Style Chicken Curry By Rajshri in Hindi.


    Dry Masala:
    10 Red Kashmiri Chilies
    2 teaspoon Coriander Seeds
    4 Cloves
    1/2 teaspoon Pepper corns
    1/2 teaspoon Poppy Seeds
    1/2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
    1/2 teaspoon Shahjeera
    4 Green Cardamoms
    2 Black Cardamoms
    1/2 Fresh Coconut, grated
    1 Big Onion, Sliced
    1/4 Dry Coconut, grated
    Wet Masala:
    1/4 bunch Coriander Leaves
    Small Ginger
    6 Garlic cloves
    2-3 Green Chilies
    2 cups Water
    Salt to taste
    1/2 kg Chicken, curry cut
    1/2 teaspoon Turmeric Powder


On a dry pan, dry roast all the dry masala ingredients.
Roast them well for 3-4 mins. Don’t burn them.
Once done, remove in a plate to cool.
In a mixer add the wet masala ingredients and give it a good mix.
Add water if required. To this add the roasted dry masala. This will be the masala for the curry. Keep it aside.
In a deep pan, add oil and let it get heated
Then add the masala and mix it well so that it gets well heated.
To this add salt and turmeric powder and mix again.
Then add water and the chicken pieces. Give it a good mix.
Cover the pan and let it cook for 5-7 mins.
