Learn a simple and quick way to make home cooked fresh Masoor Dal (Red Lentil). Get the basics right with tips and information here on your one stop food guide.


    1 cup masoor dal
    1 spoon ghee
    1 tomato finely chopped
    1 onion finely chopped
    7-8 garlic cloves
    1 inch ginger
    1/2 tbs mustard seeds
    1/2 tbs tumeric powder
    1/4 tbs asafoetida
    2 tsp grated coconut
    10-12 curry leaves
    5-6 kokam
    1/2 tsp garam masala
    1/2 tbs cumin seeds
    2 spoons corriander
    Salt to taste


Put the masoor dal in the pressure cooker
Add 1 mug of water and cook until 3 whistles are complete
For the Tadka –
Add 2 tbsp ghee
Add 1/2 tbsp mustard seeds
Add 1/2 tbsp cumin seeds
Few curry leaves
Add 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
Add 1/4 tbsp asafoetida
Add 1/2 tbsp mix masala
Add 2 spoons grated coconut
Add the finely chopped coriander, tomato, onion and kokam
Add pounded garlic and ginger
Stir and fry the masala well
Add the cooked masoor dal
Add 1/2 cup water and simmer the dal for 5 minutes
Serve hot with a few spoons of ghee on top
