Plantain Podimas Recipe in Tamil

Plantain Podimas/Vazhakkai Podimas is one of the traditional dishes in Southern Tamil Nadu. It is a simple yet healthy recipe prepared with raw bananas and does not require much oil or ingredients.

In a pan, boil some water.

Add banana and cover and cook till it is cooked but firm.

Don’t over cook. Cool and peel.)

Mash coarsely and keep aside. (Alternatively, instead of boiling, you may pressure cook or steam the banana till cooked).

In a kadhai, heat oil and add mustard seeds.

Once it crackles, add chana dal and sauté.

When it starts to turn pink, add urad dal and sauté.

Add ginger, green chili, curry leaves, salt, and stir.

Add mashed banana, hing and mix well. Cover and cook for a minute.

Add coriander leaves and coconut.

Mix well and cook for a minute.

Remove from flame and add lime juice.

Mix and serve with roti, rice, and sambhar, or as required.
