Pongal Spl: How To Make Rice Pudding

INGREDIENTS

    ½ cup raw rice
    ¼ cup moong dal
    1 1/2 tbsp ghee
    1½ tsp oil for tempering
    1 inch ginger, chopped
    Black pepper
    Cumin seeds
    Curry leaves
    Pinch of hing powder
    4 to 5 cashews, roughly chopped
    3 cups Water
    Salt to taste

DIRECTIONS

Ven Pongal  is a quick breakfast dish made especially during the festival of Pongal.

Method:

1. Roast the rice and dal separately. Keep them aside.

2. Roast the dry spices now.

3. In a separate pan, boil some water. Put the roasted dry spices and add the rice and dal to boil.

4. Grind the rest of the dry spices.

5. Heat ghee in a pan. Add the ginger, curry leaves and garlic and fry.

6. Add this to the cooked rice and mix well.

7. Serve warm.
