Pumpkin Dal


  • TIP: It is best to steam the pumpkin and the dal as it retains the nutrients of the food
  • Transfer the pumpkin into a container
  • Add the tuvar dal
  • Add 2 cups of water
  • TIP: To steam the dal and pumpkin, remove the whistle from the pressure cooker and place a steel tumbler
  • Place the container into the cooker
  • Steam the dal and pumpkin for 30 mins
  • Let the steamed pumkin and dal cool for 5-10 mins
  • Puree the pumpkin
  • For the tadka
  • In a hot pan add the cumin seeds
  • Add the crushed ginger and red chillies
  • Add the pureed dal
  • Add the haldi (turmeric powder)
  • Add the hing (asafetida)
  • Add the salt
  • Let the dal come to a boil
  • Add the lemon juice
  • Garnish with coriander and serve
