Sindhi Special: Yellow Moong Dal

A simple and diet-friendly Sindhi recipe to make for your next meal.

INGREDIENTS

    1 cup yellow moong dal, soaked for 20 minutes
    1 and a half inch ginger finely chopped
    2 green chillies finely chopped
    1 and a half cup of water
    1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
    1 medium sized tomato grated
    8 to 10 curry leaves
    1/4 tsp Hing powder (asafoetida)
    1/2 tsp Jeera (Cuminseeds)
    3-4 tbsps of oil
    Juice of half a lemon
    Coriander leaves
    salt to taste

DIRECTIONS

1. In a heavy bottom pan, add in soaked dal, ginger, green chillies, turmeric powder, water and boil.

2. Blend with a hand blender and add in the tomato puree, coriander leaves, lemon juice and salt. Mix well.

3. To make the tadka, in a small vessle, add in oil, hing, cumin seeds, curry leaves and once this flutters, add it to the dal.

4. It’s ready to serve.
