How To Store Fruits And Veggies For Longer Duration

Fruits are a source of nutrition and help lower blood pressure and risk of heart diseases and also can keep your appetite in check. While you're home during coronavirus, you can keep uour health in check by adding a lot of fruits and veggies in your diet. Since it's also the summers, we can indulge in more seasonal fruits and delicious smoothies and milkshakes. You may n0t be able to get out of the house too often these days due to coronavirus but there is a way to store your fruits for a longer duration. Here are a few tips that may help.

1. Berries

Soak your berries in vinegar and water in a bowl for a few minutes. Don't worry this won't make it taste bad. The vinegar will only kill the bacteria in the fruit that makes your berries go bad early. Rinse it thoroughly using a sieve and water and dry it with paper towels. Your berries will be fresh for days and days!

2. Bananas

Wrap the stem around in plastic wrap which will prevent any moisture to go in that makes it go bad. Also, make sure to keep bananas separate from other fruits; that will only slow down the ripening process.

3. Apples

Apples can last up to 2-3 weeks. Make sure you keep them in the refrigerator and away from other fruits. Do not cut them to prevent moisture to enter the fruits that may spoil them.

4. Carrots

Carrots do well in moisture. So it is a good idea to keep them in water in a container and wrap it around a plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator. It can be stored for up to a month this way but excess moisture causes them to rot. So, be careful.

5. Cabbage And Other Leafy Greens

Leafy Greens stay fresh much longer if you rinse them with water as soon as you get them and cover them in a paper towel and keep it in a container. Make sure to put the leafy greens in the coolest section of your fridge. This way you can keep your leafy veggies fresh for longer.

While we're all under quarantine, let's make sure we don't hoard our groceries. Groceries and medicines will be available for everyone for all 3 weeks that the country is on lockdown.
