The Ultimate Cutting Chai Recipe For Those Missing The Tapri Wali Chai

During the Coronavirus lockdown, if you're a chai lover, the one thing that might be missing is that 4'0 clock tapri wali chai break with your office buddies. The struggle is real & coping up with the work from home environment is taking a toll on you because the chai breaks are not the same anymore.

Being somebody who loves chai, I've come across varied chai-lovers. Some like it kadak, while some like it with more milk. Some like it plain & simple while others like it with masala! Among these categories, are those who only like the classic cutting chai that the chai wala bhaiya sell on the tapris. The Tapri Chai or the famous Mumbai Cutting Chai is the taste we're addicted to & need to have it at least once a day. Sadly, at present, a cup of cutting chai on the streets is a mere dream that can only be fulfilled post the quarantine phase. Until then, while you sit there missing the tapri wali chai taste, we have a tapri wali chai recipe that you can recreate at home, thus, putting an end to those cravings amid the lockdown due to the Coronavirus.

Ingredients:

2 cups Water

2 pods Cardamom

1/2 tsp Ginger (grated)

2 tsp Tea Leaves/Powder

3 tsp Sugar

1 cup Milk

Method:

In a pot, pour the water, add Cardamom pods, grated Ginger, Tea Leaves/ Powder & Sugar.

Bring it to a boil.

Once the tea is boiled well, you can see the color change to a blackish tint.

At this stage, you can add the milk (do make sure the milk isn't right out of the fridge as it may curdle once you put it into the boiling tea).

Let it simmer on a medium flame for about 5-10 minutes or more, depending on how kadak you want your chai. The trick is to simmer it for a long time.

Strain and serve hot!
