Come December, city slickers like us will be heading out for a vacay. For food lovers, nothing beats a holiday packed with some delicious food. Our culinary quests have taken us to many destinations, but there are some we'd love to go back to and recommend this season. What's more, the weather is just right to travel to these Indian cities for a taste of their extravagant fare.

Jaipur: If you want to go to food heaven, Jaipur should be on your agenda. Specialities like pyaaz kachoris, mirchi vadas and laal maas are huge attractions in the Pink City. Dig in to the dal baati churma, moong dal halwas and ghewars for the Rajasthanis make them best. Eat all you can because the weather is just right too!

Varanasi: There's so much to eat in this holy city that you would wonder where to start from. There's Awadhi, Bengali, Bihari, Punjabi, Gujarati and even Maharashtrian food in Varanasi! Kachoris are synonymous with the city and so are sweets like lavanglatika, rasgullas and rajbhogs. Do not forget to eat the chaats as they are way different from what is available in our metros.

Amritsar: Go to Amritsar for its greasy kulchas, smoky tandoori chicken and sugary jalebis.

Winter is also the perfect time to visit for there's gajar ka halwa - a seasonal favourite! Eat what you want, but do not leave Amritsar without having a langar meal at the Golden Temple. You would not regret.

Alibaug: If you love seafood, head to Konkan this season. The crabs are fresh, and the fish just perfect after the monsoon. Drive down the coast and make pit stops to eat the coconuty fish curries, the rustic mutton best enjoyed with rice flour chapatis or bhakris, sol kadi, Bombay duck and pomfret fry.

Kochi: In God's Own Country, you can dive into the mean Meenkaris, appams and chicken stew without any hesitation. Try the Malabari biryani and porotta with chicken roast, quail egg dosas, Arabian-inspired food like shawarmas, and of course, ghee roast at this beautiful coastal town. Remember to visit Fort Kochi for some Portuguese, Syrian and Jewish food.
